U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has posted to its Web site a new "Trade Engagement Biweekly Reports" which summarize topics discussed during workshops held to develop the business requirements for Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) Release 5.
CBP CROSS Rulings
CBP issues binding advance rulings in connection with the importation of merchandise into the United States. They issue the rulings to give the trade community transparency of how CBP will treat a prospective import or carrier transaction. Common rulings include the tariff classification, country of origin, or free trade agreement applicability of merchandise, among other things. These rulings are available in CBP's Customs Rulings Online Search System (CROSS) database.
In the July 20, 2005 issue of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Bulletin (CBP Bulletin) (Vol. 39, No. 30), CBP issued a notice revoking three classification rulings on porcelain table/kitchenware for commercial use. CBP states that it is also revoking any treatment it has previously accorded to substantially identical transactions that are contrary to its position in this notice.
On July 14, 2005, the Senate passed its version of H.R. 2360, the fiscal year (FY) 2006 appropriations bill for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), etc.

The Washington File reports that the Group of Eight (G8) industrialized nations has agreed to convene a meeting of experts in autumn to develop a plan for improving national anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting capabilities, noting that the theft of intellectual property rights (IPR) can be linked to organized crime. The leaders of the G8 (Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, U.S., and Russia) met on July 6-8, 2005 in Scotland.
