Lawmaker Calls for Enforcing Sanctions on Russian-Owned Oil Firm in Serbia
Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Sept. 3 that the U.S. should immediately enforce sanctions on Serbia’s majority-Russian-owned oil company, NIS, to punish Belgrade for its "subservience" to Moscow.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic "spoke in Russian when meeting with war criminal" and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Sept. 2 "to plead for Moscow to continue its political and energy support,” Wilson wrote on X. “Vucic needs Putin as he lives in fear of his people who have risen up in a mass protest movement for 10 straight months. We can demonstrate that such subservience has a high cost!”
The Office of Foreign Assets Control has issued a sanctions waiver several times for NIS, which was designated in January for its ties to Russian oil firm Gazprom Neft (see 2507300038).
