House Passes Wireless Cybersecurity Bill 360-10

The House approved the Understanding Cybersecurity of Mobile Networks Act (HR-1709) Monday night by a lopsided 360-10 margin. HR-1709 would require NTIA to report on the cybersecurity of wireless networks and vulnerabilities to cyberattacks and adversaries' surveillance. The chamber approved six other telecom bills earlier in the day (see 2507140053), including the Precision Agriculture Satellite Connectivity Act (HR-1618).

House Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie, R-Ky., hailed passage of the seven telecom bills, which the panel advanced earlier this year. “Technological innovation creates jobs, enhances our national defense, and develops new products and methods of consumer protection that improve Americans’ everyday lives,” Guthrie said. “I thank our sponsors for their commitment to these bills that will improve our cybersecurity and support American global leadership.”
