Trump Admin Forms Team to Lift Syria Sanctions, Official Says

The Trump administration has assembled a team to implement President Donald Trump’s recent order to remove sanctions on Syria, State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said May 22.

“There’s a team of people who immediately started working on that who are working on it now,” Bruce said at a press briefing. “It is a process that will take some time.” While declining to provide a specific timeline, she said the team intends to move “quickly.”

Trump announced May 13 that he would order the “cessation of sanctions against Syria” to give the war-torn country a “chance at greatness” (see 2505130061). His decision enjoys bipartisan support in Congress (see 2505200053).
