US Helping Indonesia Develop New Export Control System
U.S. and Indonesian officials convened in Jakarta this week to discuss Indonesian efforts to develop an export control system, the U.S. embassy in Jakarta said, and the two sides “facilitated dialogue and produced recommendations that will contribute” to the new system.

Heather Merritt, the State Department’s deputy chief of mission to Indonesia, said the U.S. is “proud to support Indonesia’s effort to establish a comprehensive export control system,” adding that “strategic trade management will boost Indonesia’s economy and promote a safe and prosperous trade environment for the United States and Indonesia.” Edi Pambudi, an Indonesian economic affairs ministry official, said the new system will improve the country’s “reputation as a trusted trading partner, thereby enabling a secure trading environment and fulfilling our UN obligations to mitigate the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.”
