Lawmakers Say China’s Autel Energy May Belong on Entity List

House Select Committee on China Chairman John Moolenaar, R-Mich., and Sen. In a letter to Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the lawmakers said they’re concerned that Autel Energy’s products could give the company access to sensitive consumer data “that could be used for nefarious purposes.” They also worry that the products are connected to critical U.S. electrical infrastructure, “enhancing the risks posed to American economic and national security.”

The letter notes that Autel Energy has the same parent company, Autel Intelligent Technology Corp., as Chinese drone maker Autel Robotics, which was added to the Entity List in June and the Section 1260H list in January (see 2406120036) and 2501060024). It says Autel Robotics and the parent are both “openly affiliated” with the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Liberation Army.

Commerce and Autel Energy didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment on the letter. DOD declined to comment.
