CCA Discusses 5G Fund Issues With Carr Aides
Competitive Carriers Association representatives spoke with aides to FCC Chairman Brendan Carr about the agency's broadband data collection (BDC) “and the importance of an improved mobile mapping process in general” as it moves forward on a 5G Fund. Representatives of Nex-Tech Wireless, Ookla and Cellcom/Nsight were also at the meeting.

“Participants emphasized the ongoing inefficiencies and misalignments in the BDC mapping process, especially for mobile broadband data,” said a filing posted Monday in docket 20-32. “Currently, the BDC requires providers to submit both in-vehicle and outdoor stationary data, but for mobile mapping, in-vehicle data most accurately reflects consumer experience,” it said: “Outdoor stationary data overstates coverage estimates, creating an inaccurate depiction of mobile broadband coverage.”
