Risch, Mast Welcome Paraguay’s Labeling of Iran’s IRGC as Terrorist Group

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Jim Risch, R-Idaho, and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, R-Fla., both tweeted their support April 25 for Paraguay’s designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization (see 2504240065).

The South American country's decision "decreases the threat posed on U.S. and Paraguay national security,” Risch said. “Paraguay is a great partner for America that is never afraid to stand up for what is right,” Mast said.

The State Department designated the IRGC a foreign terrorist organization in 2019, saying the "IRGC -- most prominently through its Qods Force -- has the greatest role among Iran’s actors in directing and carrying out a global terrorist campaign."
