OFAC also sanctioned IBY board chairman Kamal Hussain Al Jebry and two other officials at the Sana’a, Yemen-based bank: Ahmed Thabit Noman Al-Absi and Abdulkader Ali Bazara. OFAC said IBY has helped the Houthis make international financial transactions, evade sanctions oversight and confiscate assets of their opponents.
The agency said the designations complement the U.S. government’s effort to stop Iran-backed Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. The Trump administration recently redesignated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization, subjecting the group to additional sanctions (see 2503040008).
