Canada Sanctions Haitian, Venezuelan Officials

Canada last week announced new sanctions against people in Haiti and Venezuela for their ties to human rights violations and causing instability within the countries.

The Haiti designations target Dimitri Herard, who served as the head of the National Palace General Security Unit; Jeantel Joseph, who served as director general of the National Agency of Protected Areas; and Jeff Larose, leader of the Haiti-based Canaan gang.

The Venezuela designations target these military, intelligence and police officials: Carlos Enrique Teran Hurtado, Carlos Alberto Calderon Chirinos, Florencio Ramon Escalona, Leonel Alberto Garcia Rivas, Douglas Arnoldo Rico Gonzalez, Ronny Fernando Gonzalez Montesinos, Manuel Enrique Castillo Rengifo and Jose Ramon Figuera Valdez.
