- CBP agriculture specialists assigned to the Calexico cargo facility in California intercepted a rare pest while conducting an examination of a cargo shipment from Mexico, CBP said in a Feb. 18 release. The shipment and truck driver were returned to Mexico. USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed on Feb. 5 that the pest, discovered on Jan. 8 in a shipment containing red and green leaf lettuce, was Campiglossa peregrina, in the fruit fly family. "This species has not been recorded in the USDA pest identification database, qualifying this discovery as a first across all ports in the nation," CBP said (here).
- On Feb. 22, CBP will migrate the ACE Portal account user access management functionality to the modernized ACE Portal. Following this deployment, CBP will retire the legacy ACE Portal. Beginning Feb. 23, users will conduct all ACE Portal activities in the modernized ACE Portal (here).
- On Jan. 21, CBP deployed updates to the ACE Protest Module to include a new secondary issue for Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanction Act (CAATSA) exception reviews (here).
