Panel to Probe Belarus’ Role in Russia’s Sanctions Evasion
The U.S. Helsinki Commission, also known as the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, plans to hold a hearing Dec. 5 to examine how Belarus has aided Russia’s war against Ukraine through sanctions evasion and other means.

Representatives of the Lithuanian government and law enforcement and human rights groups are scheduled to testify.
“Witnesses will bring to light Belarus’ culpability in crimes committed against Ukraine and the rest of Europe and offer recommendations for how we can hold both countries accountable,” the hearing announcement said. Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., chairs the commission, and Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., is co-chair.
In August, the U.S., U.K. and Canada issued new, coordinated sanctions against Belarus, targeting people, companies and entities that help Russia evade sanctions and export controls, fund Belarusian oligarchs tied to President Alexander Lukashenko or take other steps to aid the Russian or Belarusian governments (see 2408090014).
