Data Shows European Sanctions Enforcement by Numbers
Data compiled by law firm Duane Morris shows which European nations are most actively enforcing sanctions, including by issuing fines, pursuing criminal convictions and undertaking investigations.

The data, published in an Oct. 25 client alert, shows Finland has 800 ongoing sanctions-related investigations, over 500 more than the second highest of 310 by Latvia. But Finland also has only issued about $12,000 fines since 2017. The U.K. has the issued the largest amount of fines during that period -- about $289 million in penalties -- followed by France (about $55 million), Germany (about $28 million) and Lithuania (about $24 million).
Since 2017, Duane Morris also said, the Netherlands has had the most sanctions-related convictions, Germany has had the longest sentences, and Poland has the highest number of successfully concluded Russia-related enforcement actions, although no criminal convictions.
