BIS ‘Committed’ to Ensuring Export Compliance, Commerce Says After TSMC Disclosure

The Commerce Department declined to say whether it’s investigating Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company for a possible breach of export controls against Huawei but is aware of public reporting about the issue, an agency spokesperson said Oct. 24.

The Bureau of Industry and Security “is aware of reporting alleging potential violations of U.S. export controls,” the spokesperson told Export Compliance Daily. “We cannot comment on whether any investigation is ongoing. BIS is committed to ensuring compliance with the robust controls we have put in place related to China’s acquisition of advanced semiconductors.”

TSMC earlier this week disclosed that it spoke with Commerce about a possible export control issue involving one of its advanced chips (see 2410230019). The chip reportedly was found in a Huawei product.
