UK Launching Beta Version of New Export Licensing System Next Month
The U.K. on Sept. 17 is planning to launch a public beta version of its new digital export licensing system, Licensing for International Trade (LITE), the country announced this week. The country has been allowing certain exporters to use the system as a “private beta,” but starting next month any exporter will be able to use LITE to apply for a standard individual export license (SIEL).

The U.K. is planning to release more details in early September, including frequently asked questions and support videos for using LITE. The country also will hold public webinars for the new system on Sept. 12 and Sept. 24.
LITE is expected to eventually replace the current export licensing system known as SPIRE, or the Shared Primary Information Resource Environment (see 2310020031). “For those who have not yet been onboarded and have continued access to SPIRE, we will be in touch separately to confirm when your SIEL access in SPIRE will be removed,” the U.K. said. “Rest assured that once you have been onboarded, any of your historic or current SPIRE applications will still be available for you to access. ”
The U.K. also said that “all other non-SIEL applications should continue to be applied for on SPIRE, for the time being.”
