Coalition to Close de Minimis Loophole Tells Ways and Means More Is Needed
Groups of law enforcement and advocates for opiate addicts, along with the Coalition for a Prosperous America, told the House Ways and Means Committee that while they appreciate its action to restrict de minimis for articles subject to Section 301 tariffs, they hope members develop a "comprehensive solution" to the de minimis crisis.

Their letter said that the rapid growth in de minimis shipments has totally overwhelmed "what already was minimal government inspection," and so smugglers are using this pathway to send fentanyl, pill presses and fentanyl precursors.
They said it's wrong to say almost all fentanyl is smuggled across the southern border, arguing that the data is incomplete, since CBP cannot sufficiently screen de minimis packages.
