Lawmaker Pushes Bill to Ban China from Buying US Farmland
Rep. Jack Bergman, R-Mich., marked National Agriculture Day on March 19 by urging Congress to pass a bill that would prohibit foreign nationals associated with the Chinese government from buying American farmland.

The legislation would "ensure that our farmland and food supply chain are protected from bad actors" like the Chinese Communist Party, Bergman's office said in a statement. Bergman is co-sponsoring the proposed “Prohibition of Agricultural Land for the People’s Republic of China Act,” which Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., introduced in February 2023.
