Census Offers AES Tips for Conveyance Name, Used Vehicle Errors

The Census Bureau emailed tips last week on how to address the most frequent messages generated this month in the Automated Export System.

Response code 126 is a fatal error for when the selected mode of transportation doesn't allow a conveyance name to be reported. Census said only a conveyance name or carrier name can be reported for vessel, air, rail or truck modes of transportation. The filer should verify the mode of transportation code and the conveyance name, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Response code 651 is another fatal error for when the Export Information Code is reported as HV for "personally owned vehicles being exported as household effects," but the used vehicle information isn't included. Census said used vehicle information must be reported if the Export Information Code is HV. The filer should verify the Export Information Code, correct the shipment and resubmit.
