Census Offers Tips for Country Code, Shipment Weight Errors

The Census Bureau this week emailed tips on how to address the most frequent messages generated this month in the Automated Export System.

Response code 331 is a fatal error for when the ultimate consignee country code reported isn't valid in the Automated Export System. Census said the code "must be a valid ISO Country code." Filers should verify the ultimate consignee country code, correct the shipment and resubmit.

Response code 650 is another fatal error for when the quantity of a shipment exceeds the shipping weight in kilograms. Filers should verify the unit of measurement, the quantity and the shipping weight reported, correct the shipment and resubmit.
