CCIA, Netflix Had Largest Increases in Q1 Lobbying, Filings Show
The Computer & Communications Industry Association, Netflix, Huawei and Apple reported the largest percentage increases in Q1 lobbying spending among telecom and tech sector entities, based on filings Wednesday. Disney, IBM and T-Mobile reported the biggest percentage spending decreases for the quarter. Facebook parent company Meta, Amazon and CTIA were the top sector spenders for Q1. Most entities boosted their spending or stayed level compared with the same period in 2021.

Meta spent $5.39 million in Q1, up more than 12% from Q1 in 2021. Amazon spent $4.97 million, more than 3% more than last year. CTIA spent $3.66 million, up more than 6% from 2021. Comcast's spend was $3.35 million, down more than 1%. NCTA spent $3.09 million, 6% lower than last year. AT&T spent $3.06 million, up 17%. Google spent $2.96 million for Q1, a 10% rise over 2021. Verizon's spend was $2.87 million, almost 4% more. Charter spent $2.84 million, an almost 9% boost from last year. NAB at $2.55 million was up 30%. Microsoft spent $2.54 million, almost 2% lower. Qualcomm said it spent $2.51 million, a more than 2% increase.
Apple spent $2.5 million in Q1, a 71% jump from 2021. T-Mobile reported $2.06 million, a more than 14% decline. IBM spent $1.04 million during the quarter, dropping more than 34%. Dell said it spent $1.02 million, up 13%. Paramount Global, previously known as ViacomCBS (see 2202150072), reported $987,000, an almost 19% jump from last year. Cox spent $970,000, down almost 12%. Disney spent $800,000, declining almost 39%. Huawei spent $756,000, a 320% jump from 2021. The Information Technology Industry Council spent $650,000, a 16% increase. Broadcom spent $530,000, an almost 56% boost.
Lumen spent $520,000 during Q1, level with 2021. USTelecom reported $500,000 in spending, down more than 7%. BSA|The Software Alliance spent $440,000, up 22%. Netflix spent $420,000, rising 425% from last year. Twitter said it spent $320,000, down 20%. The Wireless Infrastructure Association spent $200,000, level with 2021. CCIA spent $160,000 in Q1, jumping 700% from last year. ACA Connects also spent $160,000, level with 2021. ICANN spent $85,000, level with last year. TIA spent $70,000, level with 2021.
