State Department Issues Iran-Related Sanctions
The State Department sanctioned a range of entities and people engaged in illegal business with Iran, it said Jan. 15. The designations target companies doing business with Iranian shipping entities and Iranian entities for arms proliferation.

The designations include new sanctions under the Iran Freedom and Counter-Proliferation Act against the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) as well as sanctions against people and companies doing business with IRISL and other Iranian shipping entities. Those sanctions target China-based Jiangyin Mascot Special Steel Co., LTD; Iran-based Iran Transfo Co. and Zangan Distribution Transformer Co.; United Arab Emirates-based Accenture Building Materials; IRISL subsidiary Sapid Shipping and Iran’s Mobarakeh Steel Co. The designated people include IRISL CEO Mohammad Reza Modarres Khiabani and Mobarakeh Steel CEO Hamidreza Azimian.
The State Department also sanctioned Iran’s Marine Industries Organization, Aerospace Industries Organization and Iran Aviation Industries Organization for contributing to the “supply, sale, or transfer, directly or indirectly,” of arms and arms parts to Iran. The agency said each entity manufactures “lethal military equipment” for Iran’s military, including the sanctioned Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
