Indonesian Citizen, Three Companies Charged With Illegal Exports to Iran
An Indonesian citizen and three Indonesian companies were charged after violating U.S. export laws and sanctions against Iran, the Justice Department said in a Dec. 17 press release. Sunarko Kuntjoro and three companies -- PT MS Aero Support (PTMS), PT Kandiyasa Energi Utama (PTKEU), and PT Antasena Kreasi (PTAK) -- illegally exported U.S.-origin goods and technology to sanctioned Mahan Air, an Iranian airline, the press release said. The exports violated the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the Iranian Transactions and Sanctions Regulations, the Export Administration Regulations and the Global Terrorism Sanctions Regulations.

Between 2011 and 2018, PTMS worked with Mahan Air, its executive and others to export goods through PTMS, PTKEU and PTAK to the U.S. for repairs and re-export to Mahan Air and “elsewhere.” the Justice Department said. The companies did not obtain licenses from the Treasury or Commerce departments. Kuntjoro faces a maximum five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine for violating IEEPA and defrauding the U.S. government, a 20-year prison sentence and a $1 million fine for each IEEPA violation, a 20-year prison sentence and a $500,000 fine related to a money laundering charge, and a maximum five-year prison sentence and a $250,000 fine for a false statement charge.
