UK Prime Minister Johnson Calls for New Iran Deal
United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for a new nuclear deal with Iran and pointed to Donald Trump as the person who should negotiate it, in a Sept. 23 interview with NBC. "I think there's one guy who can do a better deal ... and that is the president of the United States. I hope there will be a Trump deal,” Johnson told NBC.

Johnson’s interview came as the U.K., France and Germany issued a joint statement expressing their “continued commitment” to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action but also saying it is time “for Iran to accept negotiation on a long-term framework for its nuclear” program. Iran has steadily breached the deal during the last several months, criticizing member parties for not doing enough to mitigate the impacts of U.S. sanctions (see 1907080019).
Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, said in a Sept. 23 tweet that there will not be a “new deal before compliance w/ current one.”
