U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a notice stating that it has re-accredited and re-approved SGS North America, Inc., of Deer Park, Texas, as a commercial gauger and laboratory, effective January 4, 2005. CBP adds that the next triennial inspection date will be scheduled for January 2008. 2. Interim Final Rule Adds Vice-Chairperson Position to Adm. Committee of the Nat'l Potato Promotion Board
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued an interim final rule, effective December 26, 2006, which amends the structure of the Administrative Committee of the National Potato Promotion Board as prescribed in the Potato Research and Promotion Plan by increasing the number of Vice-Chairperson positions on the Committee from six to seven. AMS states that this change is intended to more closely correlate the Committee's representation with potato production in the Northwest district-a five state region which accounts for more than half of all U.S. potato production. Comments are due by February 20, 2007. 3. DHS Homeland Security Advisory Council to Hold Partially Open Meeting
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a notice stating that the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC) will hold a partially open meeting on January 11, 2007 in Washington, DC, for purposes of reporting on task force activities examining (1) the Future of Terrorism and (2) Improving the Department's Culture. In addition, the HSAC will receive briefings and hold member deliberations with Secretary Chertoff. Written comments must be submitted by January 4, 2007. 4. FAS Seeks Nominations for Advisory Committee on Emerging Markets
The USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) has issued a notice seeking nominations for twenty qualified persons to serve on the Advisory Committee on Emerging Markets. The FAS states that the role of the committee is to provide information and advice, based upon knowledge and expertise of the members, useful to the USDA in implementing the Emerging Markets Program.
