The Department of Labor (DOL) has issued a notice requesting information on the efforts of certain countries to eliminate the worst forms of child labor. DOL explains that this information will be used in the preparation of the sixth annual report on certain trade beneficiary countries' implementation of international commitments to eliminate the worst forms of child labor. 2. Pear Provisions, References Removed From Export Apple and Pear Act Regulations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a final rule, effective December 7, 2006, revising export regulations issued under the Export Apple and Pear Act (7 CFR Part 33; now renamed as the Export Apple Act) to reflect an amendment to that Act. The amendment limits the applicability of the Act to apple exports and removes all references to pears. Accordingly, the provisions applicable to pears are removed from the regulations. 3. APHIS Issues Proposed Rule to Allow Fresh Unshu Oranges to be Imported from Korea to Alaska

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has issued a proposed rule which would amend regulations governing the importation of citrus fruit (7 CFR Part 319) to allow, under certain conditions, fresh Unshu oranges from the Republic of Korea to be imported into the State of Alaska. Comments must be received on or before February 2, 2007. 4. USDA Grants Protection to 11 New Plant Varieties

The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has issued a press release on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announcing the issuance of certificates of protection to developers of 11 new varieties of seed-reproduced and tuber-propagated plants, which include carrot, corn, daisy, and lettuce. According to AMS, the owners will have the exclusive right to reproduce, sell, import and export their products in the U.S. for the duration of protection.
