2. DOT Seeks Investors to Fund Plan to Relieve Transport Congestion

American Shipper reports that the U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT's) plan to combat highway, freight and aviation congestion is short on actual funding and long on facilitation. The plan calls for States, the private sector and transportation consumers to pay for infrastructure projects, while the federal government's role will be to stimulate investment, reduce regulatory barriers, etc. (See ITT's Online Archives or 05/24/06 news, 06052415, for BP summary of DOT's national strategy to decrease transportation congestion, which was unveiled in May 2006) (American Shipper Pub 07/06, www.americanshipper.com)

3. EPA Issues Technical Correction to Final Rule on 2006 Methyl Bromide Exemptions

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a technical correction to its February 2006 final rule, which exempted methyl bromide production and import for 2006 critical uses. The EPA is now correcting an error made in the calculation of the critical use allowances described in that the final rule. 4. FSIS Extends Comment Period for Proposed Rule on Retail Consignees During Meat or Poultry Recalls

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a notice reopening the comment period for a March 2006 proposed rule concerning the availability of lists of retail consignees during meat or poultry product recalls. FSIS reopened the comment period until June 11, 2006 (from May 8, 2006). 5. DHS' Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee Open Meeting

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a notice announcing that its Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee was scheduled to hold a public meeting in San Francisco, CA on June 7, 2006. 6. President Blocks Property of Persons Involved in Terrorist Acts in Lebanon
