The Washington Post reports that the European Commission will slap antidumping (AD) duties on Chinese and Vietnamese shoes that will be phased in from April, starting at 4 percent and rising to 19.4% for Chinese shoes and 16.8% for Vietnamese footwear over six months. Children's shoes and hi-tech shoes will be exempt. The article adds that these dumping duties could be in effect for up to five years. (WP, dated 03/17/06, www.washingtonpost.com.)

2. CBP Extends Import Restrictions to Certain Colombian Cultural Materials

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a final rule, effective March 17, 2006, to reflect the imposition of import restrictions on certain archaeological and ethnological material from Colombia. The final rule amends CBP's regulations by adding Colombia to the list of countries for which a bilateral agreement has been entered into for imposing cultural property import restrictions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that the following document is now available online: Toxicological Principles for the Safety Assessment of Direct Food Additives and Color Additives Used in Food (Redbook II: Draft Guidance).
