The Senate Finance Committee has issued a press release containing a letter urging the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to delay implementing the U.S.-Central America, Dominican Republic Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) with those countries that have not accepted the U.S. meat inspection system. 3. DDTC Announces Change in Defense Export Policy for Indonesia
The State Department's Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) has announced that on November 16, 2005, the Executive Branch waived restrictions placed on the export of lethal defense articles and related defense services controlled on the U.S. Munitions List for end use by the Indonesian Armed Forces. Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with standard practice. DDTC states that a Federal Register notice outlining this policy change is being prepared. 4. CBP Amends Regs to Reflect Extension of Import Restrictions on Certain Archaeological Material Originating in Italy
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued a final rule, effective January 19, 2006, amending 19 CFR Part 12 to indicate the extension of the import restrictions on certain archaeological material originating in Italy and representing the pre-Classical, Classical, and Imperial Roman periods of its cultural heritage ranging in date from approximately the 9th century B.C. through approximately the 4th century A.D. As a result, these restrictions will remain in effect for an additional five years.
