The Journal of Commerce reports that the Coast Guard had closed all ports from New Orleans to the Florida Panhandle ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Katrina on the morning of August 29, 2005. The article reports that the Coast Guard set Hurricane Condition X-Ray or Condition Three, for affected ports on Saturday, meaning the ports were open for departing vessels, but no vessels were allowed to come into port with the exception of inland barge traffic. 2. USTR Decides Not to Initiate Investigation on China's Currency Valuation
The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a notice announcing that the USTR has determined, effective May 27, 23005, not to initiate an investigation under section 302 of the Trade Act of 1974 with respect to a petition filed by the Congressional China Currency Action Coalition addressed to China's currency valuation policies because initiation of an investigation would not be effective in addressing the issues raised in the petition. 3. National Organic Standard Board Meeting on August 15-17, 2005
The Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) has announced the August 15-17, 2005 meeting in Washington, DC of the National Organic Standards Board. Subsequent to announcing this meeting, AMS issued a correction for the date by which individuals and organizations wishing to make an oral presentation at the meeting had to notify AMS.
