Miscellaneous International Trade Notices
The American Shipper reports that in January 2005 General Electric, the manufacturer of the only electronic seal picked by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for validation tests, stated that it had successfully detected several container intrusions during field testing, and would have a commercially available device by the third quarter of 2005. However, the article states that GE must convince CBP the device meets the agencys' requirements for a 'smart box,' which would mean, among other things, getting the false alarm rate below 1%. 2. Editorial Correction to Recent BP Summary of NMFS Final Rule on Tuna
On April 12, 2005 the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) issued a final rule amending the tuna regulations at 50 CFR Parts 216 and 300. In its two-part summary on this final rule, BP inadvertently omitted a link to its earlier BP summary of a related final rule issued in September 2004, that also made amendments to 50 CFR Part 216. As a result, BP is now publishing this link and there will be no Part III summarizing the 2004 final rule. (See ITT's Online Archives or 10/06/04 news, 04100620, for BP summary of the September 2004 final rule.) (See ITT's Online Archives or 04/22/05 and 04/25/05 news, 05042215 and 05042515, for BP two-part summary of the April 12, 2005 final rule.)
