CBP Instructions on Collection of the New Mango Fee Beginning January 3, 2005

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has issued an administrative message to ABI filers stating that it will collect a mango fee of $0.005 per pound ( cent per pound), effective January 3, 2005.

(CBP notes that the $0.005 per pound mango fee converts to $0.011023 per kilogram.)

According to CBP, the mango fee will apply to HTS 0804.50.4040 and 0804.50.6040, which provide for fresh mangos, and class code 108 will be used to report the fee.

(On October 4, 2004, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA's) Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) published a final rule that established the Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order under which first handlers and importers of 500,000 or more pounds of mangos per calendar year will pay an assessment of cent per pound to the National Mango Promotion Board. Fee effective for a duty/fee computation date of Jan. 3, 2005.CBP states that the mango fee is required effective with a duty/fee computation date of January 3, 2005.

(According to CBP, the following Customs and Trade Automated Interface Requirements (CATAIR) references define how the system determines the duty/fee computation date: EI (Entry Summary) Record Identifier 10, Input, Note 3; EI (Entry Summary) Record Identifier 20, Input, Note 2; and EI (Entry Summary) Record Identifier 30, Input, Note 6.)
