2. WTO to Review Hormone Sanctions

According to Washington Trade Daily, on November 8, 2004, the European Union complained to the World Trade Organization (WTO) that continued U.S. and Canadian sanctions over Brussels' ban on certain hormones is unjustified, as the EU has overhauled its original measures to bring them in line with a WTO dispute panel ruling. The article states the EU will discuss the issues over the next 60 days with the U.S. and Canada in an effort to resolve the matter, and if the clock runs out, either of the parties can ask for formal WTO dispute resolution. 3. U.S. Says NAFTA Environmental Report on Genetically Modified Maize Flawed

The U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) has issued a press release stating that a report on genetically modified maize (corn) iby the Secretariat of the North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (CEC) that was issued on November 8, 2004 is flawed and not based on sound science. The report recommends that biotech maize be treated differently from other modern maize hybrids. 4. APHIS Lists Wood Packaging Material Requirements for 6 Countries & EU

The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's (APHIS') wood packaging material (WPM) Web page contains specific export requirements, and in some cases effective dates, for Australia, Brazil, India, New Zealand, Argentina, China, and the European Union (EU). 5. Federal Register Notice on Revised CPG on Enforcing PN Requirement

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a Federal Register notice announcing the availability of its revised Compliance Policy Guide (CPG) on the FDA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) strategy for enforcing the Prior Notice (PN) requirement for imported food.
